In today’s rapidly evolving digital world, technology and artificial intelligence are transforming the way we learn, communicate, work, and connect with one another. While these advancements have created countless opportunities, they have also introduced new challenges and risks that are growing faster than ever before. Cybercrime, online scams, identity theft, misinformation, hacking, financial fraud, cyberbullying, and digital exploitation are becoming increasingly common, affecting people of all ages and backgrounds. As AI-powered tools become more advanced and accessible, it is becoming harder for many individuals to identify fake information, manipulated content, online threats, and digital traps designed to exploit vulnerable users.
Children and young people today are growing up in a highly connected world where digital platforms are part of everyday life. They are becoming more technologically skilled at an early age, often navigating the internet more confidently than the adults around them. However, while children may know how to use technology, they are not always fully aware of the emotional, social, and security risks that exist online. At the same time, many parents and guardians struggle to keep pace with the rapidly changing digital landscape, creating a growing gap in digital awareness within families and communities.
Recognizing this urgent need, the WorldLink CSR team expanded the WorldLink Internet Academy (WIA) beyond schools and launched WIA for Community, with the belief that digital safety and responsible online behavior are no longer optional skills, but essential life skills for every age group. Building on the success of WIA school programs that empowered students with knowledge on safe and responsible internet use, this community-focused initiative was designed to ensure that parents, caregivers, women, youth, and community members are equally informed and prepared to navigate the digital world safely.
The sessions focused on practical and relatable topics including cybercrime awareness, online scams, safe social media practices, digital privacy, responsible internet behavior, cyberbullying prevention, recognizing misinformation, and protecting personal and financial information online. Participants were encouraged to openly discuss real-life online experiences, challenges, and concerns, helping create a safe space for learning, awareness, and collective responsibility.
With the support and coordination of Women Human Rights (WHR), Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 9 and 10, and Tokha Municipality, we successfully conducted 12 community sessions, reaching more than 390+ citizens, with strong participation from women and caregivers. The active involvement of mothers and women leaders highlighted the important role families play in shaping safer digital habits at home and within society.
We strongly believe that educated mothers build educated homes, and empowered caregivers create safer digital futures for children. In a time when artificial intelligence and digital technology are advancing faster than ever before, awareness, critical thinking, empathy, and responsible online behavior have become essential tools for protection and empowerment. Through WIA for Community, we continue our commitment to building digitally aware communities and creating a safer, more informed, and more responsible online society for present and future generations.
