For centuries, Chobar has carried stories that live deep within the history and identity of Nepal. According to legend, it was here that Manjushree cut through the hills of Chobar, draining the ancient lake that once covered the Kathmandu Valley and making the valley livable for generations to come. Today, the sacred caves, forests, riverbanks, and hills of Chobar continue to stand as symbols of nature, culture, and history woven together.
But preserving this legacy is not easy. Every day, local communities, Pragatishil Yuba Club and Jalbinayak Community Forest work tirelessly to protect the fragile beauty of Chobar from pollution, unmanaged waste, and the growing pressure of urbanization. The people who care for these forests and heritage sites are not only protecting nature, they are protecting a story that belongs to all of us.
This Earth Day 2026, under our commitment to SDG 13: Climate Action, we joined hands with the local community to support this important mission. Because climate action does not always begin with grand gestures. Sometimes, it begins with simple acts of responsibility, care, and respect for the places we call home.
To contribute toward a cleaner and more sustainable environment, we proudly handed over sustainable dustbins at Jalbinayak Community Forest, with additional installations at Manjushree Park, Chobar Park, and nearby picnic areas. In collaboration with Pragatishil Yuba Club, these spaces have now been declared Plastic-Free Zones, a meaningful step toward reducing waste and encouraging visitors to protect the beauty and sanctity of historic Chobar.
Behind this initiative is a deeper message: protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. Every discarded plastic bottle left behind in a forest, every polluted riverbank, and every damaged heritage site slowly erodes the legacy we will leave for future generations. But every mindful action no matter how small has the power to create change.
The forests of Chobar are more than just greenery. They are places where communities gather, where history breathes through ancient caves and temples, and where nature continues to offer peace amidst a rapidly changing world. By helping preserve these spaces today, we are ensuring that future generations can continue to experience the beauty, history, and spiritual significance of Chobar for years to come.
