Lighting Hope Through Clean Energy at Nanikot Health Post

Hidden within the breathtaking landscapes of Karnali Province lies a reality many rarely see.

Known for its untouched natural beauty, towering mountains, ancient traditions, and iconic destinations like Rara Lake, Phoksundo Lake, and the mighty Karnali River, Karnali captures the heart of every traveler who visits. But beyond its beauty are communities quietly fighting everyday battles for survival, healthcare, and hope.

Our journey began with what seemed like a simple request. A request for a solar power system and a medical refrigerator for Nanikot Health Post.

But as we listened more closely, we realized the request represented something far deeper, a community struggling to access even the most basic healthcare services.

As part of our commitment toward SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, We traveled to Pachaljharna Rural Municipality. The journey itself became a powerful reminder of the challenges local people face every day. Narrow, dangerous roads stretched endlessly through the hills, raising one difficult question in our minds:

How do people here reach medical help during emergencies?

For years, unreliable electricity had silently impacted healthcare services in Nanikot. Life-saving medicines could not be stored safely. Vaccines remained at constant risk of damage. Health workers, despite their dedication and resilience, worked under uncertainty every single day.

In places where electricity disappears, healthcare disappears with it.

And yet, the people continued to hope.

Building upon our previous SDG-7 initiative at Chitlang Health Post during FY 81/82, we took another step toward meaningful change. This year, we successfully installed a 3kW solar power system along with a deep-freeze refrigerator for essential medicines at Nanikot Health Post.

What may appear to be a small intervention carries life-changing impact for the entire community.

With uninterrupted solar-powered electricity, healthcare workers can now safely preserve vaccines and medicines, deliver more dependable treatment, and serve patients with greater confidence. For mothers, children, elderly patients, and families living far from urban facilities, this means improved access to reliable healthcare close to home.

The handover ceremony held on Kartik 24, 2082 BS was more than just the installation of equipment.

It was a moment of hope.

A moment that symbolized resilience, dignity, and the belief that no community should be left behind simply because of geography. In that small health post surrounded by mountains and silence, light arrived not only through solar panels, but through renewed faith in a better future.

Initiatives like these remind us that transformation does not always begin with massive change. Sometimes, it begins with one light turning on in a place that has lived in darkness for far too long.

At Nanikot, that light now shines for healthcare, for safety, and for hope.

Because when energy reaches the communities that need it most, lives begin to change.
